Terms of use
Last updated 27 September 2026
These terms apply to the Promptly app for iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch, and to this website. Promptly is made by Charity Bribes ("we", "us"). By using the app you accept them.
Licence
We grant you a personal, non-transferable licence to use Promptly on devices you own or control, in line with the App Store Terms of Service. Apple's Standard End User Licence Agreement also applies to your download. You may not resell the app, redistribute it, or attempt to derive its source code beyond what the law permits.
Your notes are yours
You keep every right in what you write. We claim no licence over it, and could not use it in any event: your notes are stored on your device and, if you enable iCloud, in your own private iCloud database. We have no access to either. You can export everything as plain JSON at any time.
Because your notes are not held by us, you are responsible for your own backups. Deleting the app, losing the device, or turning off iCloud can remove your notes, and we cannot recover them for you.
Purchases
Promptly Pro is a one-time purchase, not a subscription. It is sold and processed by Apple through the App Store, and you can restore it on your other devices with the same Apple Account. Refunds are handled by Apple under their policies; we cannot issue them ourselves.
Features that are free today are described as free on our website, and we do not intend to move them behind the purchase. If that ever changed, it would not apply retrospectively to a version you already own.
The AI features, and what they are for
Answers and suggestions are produced by a machine learning model and can be wrong, incomplete, or confidently mistaken. Treat them as a starting point, not as a record. The app lists the notes an answer came from so you can check it — please do.
"Make a prompt" assembles your own notes into text and places it on your clipboard. The app does not send it anywhere. If you paste it into a third-party AI assistant, you are sending your own material to that company under their terms, and this is your decision to make. The app shows you the full text first and offers to replace names with stand-ins; that feature reduces what you disclose but cannot guarantee that every identifying detail has been removed. Read the preview before you copy.
Do not rely on Promptly for anything where being wrong carries professional, medical, legal or financial consequences without checking it against the underlying notes.
Acceptable use
Use Promptly lawfully. Do not use it to store or process material you have no right to hold, and remember that notes about other people may carry obligations to them under data-protection law — particularly if you are using the app for work.
Availability and changes
We may update the app, and features may change or be withdrawn where they depend on things outside our control — an Apple framework, an OS version, or a device capability. Promptly requires the operating system versions stated on its App Store listing; some features need Apple Intelligence and appear only on devices that support it.
No warranty
Promptly is provided "as is". To the extent the law allows, we exclude implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.
Liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, lost profits, or lost or corrupted data. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid for the app.
Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. If you are a consumer, your statutory rights are unaffected.
Apple
Apple is not a party to these terms and has no obligation to provide support for the app. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries and may enforce these terms against you.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply in it, and the courts of Ontario have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them. If you are a consumer, nothing here removes the protection of the mandatory consumer laws of the place where you live.
